To begin with, the start of Sir Alex Ferguson's supreme success at the club.
United faced a Johan Cruyff side in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup Final that was deemed to be one of the greatest to ever exist in the sport, with a plethora of fantastic names such as Hristo Stoichkov, Michael Laudrup and many more.
The match took place in Rotterdam, which would've been a perfect setting for Cruyff. However, Ferguson's technically inferior side dominated proceedings. The great Bryan Robson was particularly instrumental, being a major part in both goals which saw United steam two goals ahead in the Netherlands.
A late Barcelona goal was enough to unsettle the Red Devils, but they ultimately held their nerve and won their first European trophy in 23 years.
Another Manchester United victory up next, and they did this in ridiculous fashion.
The first leg at the Nou Camp ended in a 2-0 bitter defeat for United, which meant they had to come back to Manchester and overcome the deficit in front of their adoring fans - which is exactly what they did.
Bryan Robson was once again one of the stars of the show, netting a brace and leaving a ludicrous Barcelona side including Diego Maradona absolutely shellshocked.
Old Trafford was simply bouncing during this fixture, and many fans of the club recollect this as one of their greatest-ever European nights under the lights at Old Trafford.
Enough of the United wins - here Barcelona get their own back, on the greatest stage of them all. The Champions League final.
The final showcased some of the greatest footballing talent in the world at the time, with both sides having players of monumental class, however, there was really only one side that decided to show up at Wembley Stadium.
Pep Guardiola's Barca side oozed class. Goals from David Villa, Pedro and the magician that is Lionel Messi were enough to cancel out a second-half Wayne Rooney strike and ensured Barcelona were champions of Europe once again.
Sir Alex Ferguson even admitted at full-time that the Catalans were by far the better side. He never did manage to get revenge on them before he retired.
As far as United and Barcelona clashes go - you will struggle to ever find one that was as entertaining as the Champions League group stage tie in 1998.
In one of the greatest groups you'll ever see, along with Bayern Munich - United faced off with Barca at Old Trafford in the final game, with the result proving vital as to who may advance with the Germans to the knockout rounds.
United were in dreamland as they found themselves two goals up heading into the break thanks to an expertly dispatched Ryan Giggs header and a Paul Scholes tap-in.
Barca brought them back down to earth after a Rivaldo brace put them level pegging. David Beckham then put United ahead once more with a trademark free-kick, before the Spanish giants got their second penalty of the game which was dispatched past Peter Schmeichel to make it 3-3.
This was enough for the Red Devils to go through with Munich - Barcelona crashed out of the group stages despite their best efforts.
This game had it all. Disallowed goals, two penalties, six strikes, a red card and a cascade of footballing talent. An instant classic.
The greatest ever game between the two was a footballing masterclass from Barcelona, but particularly one special little Argentinian man - Lionel Messi.
The game had immeasurable talent on the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Samuel Eto'o, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and so many more all featured, but Guardiola's Barca side controlled the game after a great United start.
Goals from Eto'o and Messi were enough to secure the Champions League trophy, and thus initiated an era of sheer dominance from Guardiola.
