Manchester United’s hatchet job on Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho will come up during the executive committee meeting today, according to The Athletic.

Manager Ruben Amorim opted to drop them from the matchday squad for the trip to Manchester City, and it proved to be effective as the Red Devils left it late to secure a 2-1 win in their absence.

Amorim insists the decision was not a disciplinary measure as Rashford and Garnacho did not do enough in recent games and training sessions to earn a place in the team against their bitter city rivals.

They both trained on Sunday morning and will now hope to return to the squad for the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday for the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Rashford was linked with a January transfer exit last week, and the board will be more than ready to sanction a sale after the latest decision from Amorim.

He has a chance to prove himself in the coming weeks, but whether he is capable of changing his attitude remains to be seen, given how he often misbehaved under former manager Erik ten Hag.
