Newcastle’s bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has fallen short of the German club’s valuation, according to the Athletic.

The Magpies made an offer of around £70m for the Slovenia international, but the Athletic report that it will not be accepted.

Manchester United also remain keen on Sesko, who was not involved in RB Leipzig’s friendly against Atalanta amid the uncertainty around his future.

Speaking after the game against Atalanta, RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer discussed the interest in the 22-year-old.

“We won’t go into detail on that but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it’s obvious what has happened,” he said.

Current Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, meanwhile, is due back at the club following his own individual training camp in Spain.

He did not travel with the Magpies squad to Asia after reporting a thigh injury, with boss Eddie Howe remaining hopeful of keeping the Sweden international having rejected a bid from Liverpool.

Newcastle remain keen on Yoane Wissa, but Brentford do not want to sell the striker despite him wanting to leave. He was left out of the Bees squad which played QPR in a pre-season friendly.

The Magpies have also complete the signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton.

Elsewhere, Sky Sports say Jorrel Hato has completed his Chelsea medical ahead of his move to the Blues from Ajax.

Along with Sesko, Xavi Simons was also left out of RB Leipzig’s friendly with the attacking midfielder keen to follow fellow Dutchman Hato to Chelsea.

Wolves have completed a deal to sign AZ Alkmaar left-back David Moller Wolfe for £10m plus £2.1m in add-ons.

And West Ham have signed former Newcastle striker Callum Wilson on a one-year contract, having left the Magpies earlier this summer following the expiration of his contract.
