Ruben Amorim admits he is reluctant to throw some of his Man Utd youngsters into the first team but admits he will do so in order to give his side the best chance of winning the Europa League.

United played more than 120 minutes on Thursday night in a chaotic game which saw them come out as eventual winners over Lyon and progress to the Europa League semi-finals.

It means Amorim will likely look to freshen up his team for Sunday’s clash with in form Wolves.

With United down in 14th position in the Premier League and their only hopes of salvaging something from this season depending on whether or not they win the Europa League, Amorim admitted after the win over Lyon that he would not be prioritising the Premier League.

That likely presents a chance for youngsters such as Ayden Heaven, Harry Amass and Chido Obi-Martin to impress but Amorim accepts that it is not an ideal situation.

“I think it’s not the best moment or the best season to put some kids in to play,” he said.

“They need a strong base to really show what they can do but in this moment, we need to do it and sometimes you have surprises.

“Ayden played, and I can be honest, because we had a lot of injuries in that moment but today I think he is my player. He’s facing the competition in the team and he’s ready to play so you don’t know.

“Amass did really well (against Lyon) so we don’t know. Chido, when he played, he played quite well.

“It’s a difficult moment. It’s not the right moment for the kids to play but if we have to do it, we will do it.”

Wolves have won four games in a row under Vitor Pereira and Amorim says he has been hugely impressed by the job the fellow Portuguese boss has done.

“I think he’s doing an amazing job,” Amorim said.

“He’s doing quite well. He has changed some players and has really quality players. Cunha, all these guys, they have real quality.

“They are fresh so we know it’s going to be a tough match and we are going to need a lot from our supporters.”
