With Casemiro’s future up in the air, Manchester United need a defensive midfielder to fill the void should the Brazilian depart anytime soon.
Al-Nassr’s offer still remains on the table while Major League Soccer clubs are also eyeing a move for the 32-year-old who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
He has managed only four starts under Ruben Amorim, not lasting the full 90 minutes in either of those appearances and his last cap came more than three weeks ago with the head coach preferring academy graduate Toby Collyer instead of him, which makes a departure even more likely.
As per CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are monitoring Lucien Agoume of Sevilla with a view to moving in for him in the summer after he caught the eye of United scouts with his displays in La Liga.
“Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume is of interest to United. He is on their radar as they look to bolster the midfield, but any deal won’t occur until the summer.”
The 22-year-old can operate further forward as well and has made 20 appearances for the Spanish side since his summer move from Inter Milan.
Owing to United’s PSR woes, the Red Devils are are unlikely to have a huge war chest to work with in the summer as well and the France U21 fits the bill as he is not expected to cost a lot.
There is plenty of Premier League interest in his services, so it will not be a straightforward race. But he fits the INEOS bill of being young and having loads of potential.
“The 22-year-old is contracted at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium until 2028 and there is no exit clause in his current deal.
“He has been linked with a move to the Premier League before and would not cost a substantial fee,” the report further added.
The “extraordinary” Frenchman’s physical attributes have earned him a lot of praise in the past and he possesses a great engine, which should work well in Amorim’s system.
Agoume has a market value of €7 million with Sevilla acquiring his services for €4 million last summer with his contract valid until 2028. He has no release clause in his contract.
