Manchester United ended the league phase of the Europa League on a high with a 2-0 win over FCSB on the road on Thursday night.
Manager Ruben Amorim made five changes to the starting XI. The scores were level at the break, but United stepped up in the second half.
Diogo Dalot broke the deadlock at the hour mark. Kobbie Mainoo popped up with the second goal to put the game to bed eight minutes later.
Mainoo was brilliant in the left-sided number 10 role against FCSB. Aside from scoring, he provided an excellent cross for Dalot to find the net.
There were several good performances on the night, but one player was particularly disappointing.
Tyrell Malacia has struggled to find consistency since his return from a lengthy knee injury lay-off.
The Dutchman had another frustrating game at left wing-back. He was booked for a reckless challenge and invited pressure with a poor back pass in the opening half.
Malacia delivered one dangerous cross, but it was insufficient for him to keep his place. He was substituted at the interval by manager Ruben Amorim.
The former Feyenoord man had only 13 successful passes in the opening half. He lost half of his ground duels and was dribbled past on one occasion.
Malacia received a 4/10 rating from the Manchester Evening News for his performance. He may have played his final game for the Red Devils.
United are poised to sign Lecce left wing-back Patrick Dorgu. His arrival from the Serie A outfit will likely pave the way for Malacia’s exit, possibly on loan.
The Red Devils have given the green light for his departure. Real Betis and Celtic have emerged as potential destinations for the 25-year-old full-back.
