Manchester United are reportedly closing in on striking an agreement with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer.
Boosting United’s goal output is believed to be United’s top transfer priority after a toothless 2024/25 campaign in which the club finished 15th and with a -10 goal difference.
After confirmation of Matheus Cunha’s arrival, United’s focus is now on getting a deal for Mbeumo over the line.
Mbeumo enjoyed a superb season with Brentford, scoring a career-high 20 Premier League goals while providing an additional seven assists.
His performances alerted a number of clubs to his availability, including Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Arsenal, but the Cameroonian chose United, despite them having no European football.
United had an opening bid worth up to £55m rejected by Brentford, who are holding out for more money. Talks have been ongoing with the Bees for days to try and find a resolution. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are prepared to walk away from talks if Brentford do not compromise over their valuation of Mbeumo.
However, a positive update has now emerged, indicating that an agreement is close to being found.
According to journalist Rudy Galetti, United and Brentford are slowly closing the gap in their valuation, with the difference in price no longer as significant as it once was.
Galetti wrote on X, “Positive contacts between Man UTD and Brentford for Mbeumo.”
“The gap on fixed fee is narrowing: just a few million left.”
“Personal terms have already been agreed, as revealed days ago: to date, Bryan only wants MUFC – no interest in other clubs.”
Over the weekend, ESPN revealed that United have lined up Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as alternatives in case they fail to land Mbeumo.
