As Real Madrid go through a period of turmoil with Carlo Ancelotti’s future uncertain and several players facing sanctions following the Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona, another crisis comes to light: Aurelien Tchouameni’s looming suspension for the El Clasico on May 11.

Tchouameni, a key player in Ancelotti’s defensive setup, has taken on the role of an emergency centre-back due to injuries to key defenders.

At present, with Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba all absent through respective issues, the Frenchman is certain to start the Barcelona clash alongside Raul Asencio.

However, with a yellow card tally of four, the French midfielder is just one booking away from a one-match suspension.

Real Madrid’s appeal rejected

Real Madrid had appealed Tchouameni’s fourth yellow card, received during the match against Getafe, but the Competition Commission upheld the decision, leaving Tchouameni at risk of missing the crucial Clásico if he picks up another card.

The timing of this situation could not be worse for Real Madrid, as the team prepares for the Clasico against their fiercest rivals, Barcelona.

If Tchouameni does receive a yellow card during the upcoming match against Celta on May 4, he will be forced to sit out the highly anticipated encounter and this would leave Ancelotti with no other trusted option to fill the defensive void.

In Tchouameni’s absence, Ancelotti may have to rely on Jesus Vallejo, who has been a peripheral figure in the squad this season, or even a youth player like Jacobo Ramon to step into the centre-back position.

Neither option offers the same level of experience or assurance as Tchouameni, making the situation even more concerning for Real Madrid.

With the Clasico being such a crucial fixture in the La Liga title race, losing Tchouameni would undoubtedly be a blow to Real Madrid’s hopes of securing a positive result.

The team will be desperately hoping that the 25-year-old can avoid any further yellow cards and be available to strengthen their defence against Barcelona.
