Magpies reject formal Isak offer from Liverpool | OneFootball

Newcastle have turned down a formal bid from Liverpool for striker Alexander Isak.

The Swedish forward is understood to be keen on a move away from St James’ Park this summer and has been training at former club Real Sociedad while Eddie Howe's squad continue their pre-season tour in South Korea.

Liverpool had previously made an informal enquiry and signalled interest in a deal worth around £120 million. However, their official approach has now been rejected by the Magpies.

Newcastle have attempted to keep Isak on Tyneside by offering an upgraded contract - which would have included a release clause activated next summer - and have leaned on senior players to persuade him to stay. But the 25-year-old has remained firm in his desire to move on, a position he and his representatives have communicated for some time.

Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £60 million and is currently training individually at the Spanish side’s Zubieta base.

Although the club have attributed his absence from their Asia tour to a minor thigh issue, sources suggest Isak himself opted out due to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

He still has three years left on his current deal, but Newcastle have started identifying potential replacements - even as they continue to insist that the striker is not for sale.
