Olympique Lyonnais’ CEO, Laurent Prud’homme has announced that Thursday’s UEFA Europa League encounter with Manchester United will break the current attendance record at the Groupama Stadium.
Lyon will host Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal. Ahead of the encounter, Prud’homme, speaking on Radio Scoop, revealed that the current attendance record, set back in February 2019 when Les Gones faced Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League (57,889 spectators in attendance), is set to be broken.
OL’s CEO told the radio station on Wednesday that there will be more than 58,000 fans in attendance at the Groupama Stadium, which opened back in 2016.
As noted by L’Équipe, there has been a larger crowd at the Groupama Stadium, although that was for a non-sporting event. 72,561 people attended an Indochine concert at the Groupama Stadium back in June 2022. On Thursday, the record attendance for a sporting event will, however, be broken at OL’s stadium.
