Liverpool have won their 20th league title following a great domestic campaign in the debut season of manager Arne Slot, and the Dutchman will be plotting a successful title defence and a tilt at the Champions League next term.

A few additions are expected at the Anfield club this summer, with a new right-back needed after Trent Alexander-Arnold triggered a reaction from their fanbase by announcing his exit. We looked at three options the Reds could consider to replace him.

Some Liverpool players also need to follow him out the door, and here is a look at which players Slot should retain and those to be let go.

Goalkeepers

Alisson Becker

The 32-year-old was crucial to their title win and is now entering the final two years of his current contract.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is joining from Valencia in the summer, and how he fares going forward will play a huge role in what happens with the future of Alisson at the club.

Caoimhin Kelleher

The imminent arrival of Mamardashvili means the frustrated Republic of Ireland international will now look to finally move on.

Kelleher has made 20 appearances this term but remains behind Alisson in the pecking order and will be third-choice next season if he opts to remain with Liverpool beyond this season.

Verdict: Sell

Vitezslav Jaros

The 23-year-old Czechia international joined the Reds as a youth player in 2017 from Slavia Prague and finally made his debut in the Premier League match against Crystal Palace last October as a 79th-minute substitute.

Jaros started against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup later that month, and he could decide to hang around as third-choice next season again after four loan spells away from Anfield.

Verdict: Keep

Harvey Davies

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to be released as his 14-year association with the Reds draws to a close.

Verdict: Release

Defenders

Joe Gomez

The 27-year-old has made himself a key player due to his versatility, and while injuries have limited his appearances this term, he remains crucial to the plans of Slot going forward as he continues to fill in at centre-back, left-back and right-back.

Verdict: Keep

Virgil van Dijk

The Liverpool captain signed a two-year contract extension last month and will hope to win more trophies in his ninth and tenth seasons at the club as he continues to prove why he is widely acclaimed to be one of the best defenders of all time in the Premier League.

Ibrahima Konate

The Frenchman is out of contract next season, and the Reds are desperately hoping they will not be forced to sell him this summer or lose him for free at the end of next season.

Another contract saga could be on the cards at the Merseyside club.

Verdict: Keep

Kostas Tsimikas

The first Greek footballer to win the Premier League has provided quality cover and competition for Andrew Robertson since he arrived from Olympiacos in 2020, but this summer could be a good time to cash in on the 29-year-old.

Liverpool need a younger and better option in the position, and selling Tsimikas when he still has two more years on his contract makes sense.

Andrew Robertson

The 31-year-old Scotland international has been involved in just two goals in 44 appearances this term after ending last season with three goals and two assists, and his attacking input has dwindled enormously over the last two seasons.

He is out of contract next summer, and while it does not appear he will be getting a contract extension, holding on to him for one more season, given his huge experience and quality, could be worth it.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

The 26-year-old joined Liverpool as a kid in 2004 but is leaving as a man for Real Madrid, and while he has drawn the ire of fans in the process, he has made a decision he deems best.

Verdict: Release

Jarell Quansah

The 22-year-old started the season as first-choice in the heart of the defence alongside Van Dijk before losing his place to Konate, and he is attracting interest from elsewhere ahead of the summer transfer window.

Quansah is not pleased with regularly being on the bench and could push for an exit, but the Reds have to hold on to him if he wants to stay to fight for his place.

Conor Bradley

The Northern Ireland international has been widely tipped to be the perfect successor to Alexander-Arnold, but can he manage to maintain his fitness and be available to play up to 50 games per season?

Verdict: Keep

Mifielders

Wataru Endo

The 32-year-old Japanese has started only twice across the Premier League and Champions League this term, and a move to where he can play regularly as he nears the twilight of his career could appeal to him.

Endo has two more years left on his contract, and this summer will be the best time to sell him if Liverpool want to make any decent money from a sale.

Verdict: Sell

Dominik Szoboszlai

The first Hungarian footballer to win the Premier League has proven to be a valuable addition to the Liverpool midfield since he arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023.

Given the influence of the 24-year-old in the team, talks over a new deal could soon begin despite still having three years left on his contract.

Verdict: Keep

Alexis Mac Allister

The Argentine played a crucial role in helping Liverpool land the title after an outstanding debut campaign, and he will be dreaming of winning the Champions League with them in his third season.

Curtis Jones

The 24-year-old academy graduate is finding it tough to establish himself as a starter at his boyhood club, but he remains an important member of the squad and is always ready to give his best on the pitch whenever he is called upon.

Verdict: Keep

Harvey Elliott

The 22-year-old has played 26 times across all competitions this season, but has only started three times, and an exit could appeal to him as he craves regular playing chances.

A sale could be in the best interest of both parties, and Liverpool should not hesitate to cash in if a suitable bid arrives in the coming weeks.

Ryan Gravenberch

Slot badly wanted a new number six last summer and was gutted to have missed out on Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.

However, Gravenberch stepped up and stepped in, and the rest is history.

Verdict: Keep

Tyler Morton

The 22-year-old underwent surgery on a lingering shoulder injury earlier this year and has appeared just five times so far this season.

West Ham United are admirers of the Liverpool academy graduate, having attempted to sign him in January, and the wantaway midfielder should be sold this summer.

Verdict: Sell

Attackers

Luis Diaz

The Colombian recently admitted he wants to remain at the club and sign a new deal, and he deserves a contract extension after his best-ever season in front of goal as a professional.

Verdict: Keep

Darwin Nunez

It is simply not working out for the Uruguay international at Anfield, and both parties should go their separate ways this term after another underwhelming campaign in the final third from him.

Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian King came close to leaving as a free agent, but recently signed a two-year contract extension after months of speculation over his future.

Salah is ready to lead Liverpool to domestic and continental glory again, and he could see his dream of winning the Ballon d’Or come true if that happens next term.

Federico Chiesa

The Italian will be disappointed with how his debut Premier League campaign has gone, and it will be intriguing to see whether he can knuckle down and redeem himself next season.

Cody Gakpo

The Dutch attacker is enjoying his best campaign in front of goal since joining Liverpool and will be looking to keep getting better and better in his pursuit of Champions League glory with the Reds.

Diogo Jota

The Portuguese has continued to struggle with injuries in recent months and will hope next season is different.

A constantly fit Jota will be huge for Liverpool, and Slot has to ensure everything is done to have the 28-year-old available all through 2025-26.
