Liverpool remain interested in Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki (21), according to Foot Mercato. The brand-new France international is reportedly the Reds’ plan B option behind Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen prodigy tops the Premier League champions’ wishlist, but no agreement has been found as of now with the Bundesliga runners-up. The Athletic reported today that Liverpool head coach Arne Slot met with Cherki last week in France.

Foot Mercato reports that Liverpool are well aware that Manchester City are also interested in signing Cherki. The Cityzens notably pulled out of the race to sign Wirtz as Cherki is a much cheaper option than the Germany international. The outlet understands that further talks are expected to take place between Manchester City and Lyon this week. The Skyblues intend to steal a march on Cherki’s suitors – Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund – and quickly wrap up a deal with Les Gones.
