Luis Díaz’s Liverpool future is once again in the spotlight, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reporting that Bayern Munich are preparing to step up their interest in the Colombian winger. While no deal is yet agreed, the Bundesliga giants are clearly making moves behind the scenes.
“FC Bayern are prepared to offer Luis Díaz a contract until 2029 or 2030,” wrote Plettenberg on X. The long-term deal would come with a sizeable pay increase, reflecting the growing belief in Munich that Díaz is a player worth investing in.
Bayern’s interest in Díaz is not new, but this time it comes with added momentum. “Díaz remains willing to leave Liverpool if a suitable offer arrives and is aware of concrete interest from Bayern,” Plettenberg added.

Díaz arrived at Anfield in January 2022 and immediately injected energy and quality into Liverpool’s left flank. But despite his contributions, including vital goals and tireless pressing, the 27-year-old has not been handed the kind of new deal or wage packet typically associated with key players.
His current salary has risen modestly from an initial £55,000 per week, but not to the levels he or his representatives might have hoped for.
The financial impasse appears to have opened the door for external suitors. Díaz “is still considered a potential candidate for sale,” and Liverpool are said to be expecting a fee of “€70–80 million, depending on the buyer (Europe or Saudi Arabia).”
As of now, there has been no formal dialogue between Liverpool and Bayern. “At present, however, there is no agreement between Bayern and Díaz and no concrete negotiations between Bayern and Liverpool,” Plettenberg clarified.
Still, the signals are hard to ignore. Bayern are clearly interested and Díaz, aware of that, is not shutting the door. While Barcelona have ended their pursuit and turned to Marcus Rashford, Bayern have intensified theirs, encouraged by Díaz’s openness to a move.
Saudi clubs have also monitored the situation, but for now, the player prefers to stay in Europe. That could tilt the balance further towards the German champions, should Liverpool decide to cash in.

If Liverpool do decide to sell, replacements are already being considered. Rodrygo of Real Madrid and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle are two names on the shortlist.
The report notes that Gordon was close to a move last summer but Newcastle ultimately balanced their books through the sale of other players. As for Rodrygo, his future is uncertain following Real Madrid’s Club World Cup exit.
Liverpool’s attack could soon be reshaped again, with Díaz at the heart of yet another summer window of transition.
For Liverpool fans this is unsettling but not entirely unexpected. Luis Díaz has never publicly agitated for a move, but it’s clear there’s frustration beneath the surface. He arrived as a game-changer, and while injuries stalled his momentum, his commitment and skill have never wavered.
The issue here is about value and priorities. If the club are unwilling to match his wage expectations, especially after others have been handed improved terms, it speaks volumes. That said, €70–80 million for a player turning 28 this season is a big fee. If reinvested smartly, it could make sense.
Still, losing Díaz feels premature. He fits the system, he loves the big occasion, and he still has another level to reach. The thought of him thriving in Bavaria in a Bayern shirt while Liverpool search for consistency on the left will sting.
If he is sold, the replacements need to be at a similar level from the first whistle. Rodrygo has flair and end product, Gordon has Premier League experience and pressing energy. But neither is a guaranteed upgrade. Supporters will want answers from the club either way, especially as this era under Arne Slot takes shape.
