Alexander-Arnold’s head has been turned

We started our newsletter series by predicting that Liverpool’s ongoing contract stand-off with a trio of key players could impact their title challenge.

It did not take too long for the prophecy to come to fruition, as Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a dismal performance against Manchester United yesterday.

His body language smacked of someone whose head has been turned by Real Madrid’s bid for him and he rightly received plenty of stick for his display.

Former United star Roy Keane inevitably got stuck into Alexander Arnold on Sky Sports, saying he was more likely to join Tranmere Rovers than Madrid following his ‘schoolboy’ defending.

In truth, Tranmere and schoolboys have every right to feel affronted, given the so-called ‘best right-back in the world’ delivered a thoroughly stinking performance.

Manager Arne Slot must act decisively after Alexander-Arnold’s woeful display. Conor Bradley should start ahead of him for the foreseeable future.

He showed more desire than Alexander-Arnold in a handful of minutes on the pitch and deserves the opportunity to nail down the right-back position.

What to watch

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo heads back to Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening with his new team riding high in the Premier League.

A victory would move them level on points with Arsenal and cement the growing belief they can claim a top-four finish at the end of the season.
