In a recent interview with Wette.de, Dietmar Hamann urged his former club Liverpool to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez this summer. Hamann said,

“I’d love to see Julian Alvarez at Liverpool and I think Darwin Nunez being part of the deal would make a lot of sense. I think Nunez is tailor made for Atletico Madrid as a physical centre forward, someone who will work so hard which is what Diego Simeone wants.

“Alvarez would also be a fantastic addition at Liverpool, he played in the shadow of Erling Haaland at Manchester City but really added to his reputation in Madrid. He led the line, scored goals and made life a nuisance for the back lines he played against, I think he would be a brilliant signing.

“There are rumours about other forwards, but Alvarez would be a great addition to Liverpool and Nunez might just be an ever better signing for Atletico.”

Alvarez’s Good Form In Spanish Football

The 25-year-old enjoyed a decent run of form at the Spanish club last season when he put in a series of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. Alvarez banged in 29 goals and grabbed seven assists in 55 matches for Atletico Madrid in the previous campaign across all fronts.

The Argentina international did well to average 2.51 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He kept 51.4% of his attempts on target. Alvarez even distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half after completing 74.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Move In For Alvarez?

Alvarez excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field.

The Argentine forward has proven his worth as a prolific finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He mainly functions as a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if needed.

Alvarez would undoubtedly enhance the quality of Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s frontline. He will serve as an upgrade to Darwin Nunez, who has struggled to be consistent during his time at the Merseyside club.

At 25, Alvarez has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a dream option for the Reds to pursue in this summer transfer period. He might even help Liverpool compete for a lot of major honours over the next few years. Thus, Slot would be wise to move in for him soon.
