Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is undergoing further tests as concerns grow over another potentially lengthy spell out injured.

Gomez lasted just ten minutes of Liverpool's FA Cup fourth round tie with Plymouth Argyle before sitting down on the turf. He was consoled by his teammates before leaving the field alongside the club's physio.

The 27-year-old has suffered a raft of injury problems during his career and had already missed 11 games of the 2024/25 season with a hamstring issue.

The Athletic report that tests are being conducted to find out the severity of Gomez's latest problem, but the club 'fear' that he could be out of action for a considerable amount of time. He could even require surgery, potentially ending his season depending on how much recovery and rehabilitation time would be needed.

Gomez is Liverpool's longest-serving player and previously formed a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence. He was a key player in their maiden Premier League title win but has missed in excess of 200 matches across all competitions because of injuries - starting with a cruciate ligament tear during the 2015/16 season.

The 15-cap England international has also had serious knee and ankle injuries, requiring surgery on the latter twice.

Gomez was linked with a move away from Liverpool last summer, with Arne Slot's preferred partner for Van Dijk now Ibrahima Konate. The Dutchman also has Jarell Quansah at his disposal, while additional reinforcements have been linked in various gossip columns.
