Liverpool’s Owen Beck Considering Wrexham Move: A Smart Step for All Parties?

Wrexham’s fairytale rise under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney continues to capture the imagination, and their next ambitious move could involve poaching a current Liverpool defender. According to a report by WalesOnline, 22-year-old Owen Beck is “considering” a move to the newly-promoted Championship club, with the Hollywood-owned side keen on bringing the left-back on board.

Beck, who enjoyed a strong campaign with Blackburn Rovers last season before an injury in April curtailed his progress, now faces an uncertain future at Anfield following the arrival of £45m man Milos Kerkez. With Kerkez expected to become Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, the likes of Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson may also see their minutes drop — and for Beck, the squeeze could be fatal to his long-term Liverpool ambitions.

Wrexham’s Clear Intent in the Transfer Market

Having already snapped up ex-Red Danny Ward, Wrexham’s sights are now set on securing Beck, who made 24 appearances for Rovers last season and drew widespread praise. Their promotion to the Championship has emboldened the club to target higher-quality players who can match their ambitions. And in Beck, they see a left wing-back who fits the profile.

“So Owen Beck, we mentioned that situation, that is the left-wing-back they would like,” said Nathan Salt on the Rob Ryan Red Podcast, as quoted by Wrexham Insider.

Wrexham’s need for a dynamic, defensively-sound and progressive wing-back makes Beck an ideal candidate. The question is whether Liverpool are prepared to loan him out again — with only one year remaining on his contract.

Liverpool’s Dilemma: Sell or Extend?

It would be unwise for Liverpool to loan Beck without tying him down to a new deal. His current contract expires in 2026, and the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes will be conscious of protecting any future transfer value. A fresh contract followed by a strategic loan could ensure Liverpool retain control of the Welshman’s career path, whether that leads to a permanent exit or a return as cover for Kerkez and possibly a post-Robertson role.

Should Beck impress again in the Championship, Liverpool may either cash in or bring him back into the fold — particularly as Robertson’s contract also winds down. It’s a pivotal moment in Beck’s development.

Career Reset for Beck Could Be Just What He Needs

Beck has shown he can perform consistently at Championship level. Wrexham’s interest isn’t sentimental — it’s based on performance. While Rangers and Sheffield United are also reportedly keen, Wrexham offer him a unique chance to be a star figure in an ambitious side on the rise.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, Owen Beck’s potential move to Wrexham makes strategic sense — but only with certain conditions met.

Beck impressed many fans during his spell at Blackburn, showing maturity in possession, good defensive awareness, and attacking intent. His injury came at the wrong time, but he still left a positive impression. The arrival of Kerkez, a high-profile and expensive signing, clearly blocks Beck’s path to the first team, Robbo and Tsimikas remain ahead of him for now.

So a move makes sense — but a loan without a contract extension would feel like poor business. Richard Hughes should ensure Beck signs new terms before any departure. At 22, he’s still got upside, and even if he doesn’t have a long-term Anfield future, protecting his value is smart asset management.

From a fan point of view, seeing another academy product potentially leave is always bittersweet, but Wrexham is an exciting project. With Reynolds and McElhenney backing it, the infrastructure and ambition are in place. Beck could thrive in an environment where he’s trusted to lead, not just support.
