Liverpool's summer transfer window started with a flourish but things are starting to fizzle out.

Either that or Richard Hughes is set to end the window with a bang. Both options are on the table and one thing is clear, the Reds' work is not done yet.

Obviously, there's major focus on potential new arrivals. Alexander Isak, Marc Guehi and potentially a versatile attacker are all on the table at the moment.

But there's just as much work to be done when it comes to getting rid of players. Liverpool have a pretty bloated squad at U21 level in particular where a lot of players have probably outgrown the Premier League 2.

Rhys Williams, Calvin Ramsay, Kaide Gordon, James McConnell and Lewis Koumas are just a few of those names who still need to have clarity over their future.

Some may be moving onto permanent deals, others will benefit from loan spells in order to bridge the gap between U21 football and Liverpool's first team.

McConnell definitely falls into this category since he is very highly rated by Arne Slot but has had some injury problems over the course of the last few months.

Another player who has not been very fortunate when it comes to injuries is Luke Chambers. The youngster is very highly rated by Liverpool's youth scouts and he's already made a couple of appearances for Liverpool at first team level.

On top of that Chambers has had two brilliant loan spells at Wigan Athletic, who would be keen to loan him again.

However, according to the Daily Mail Liverpool have other plans for Chambers. The report claims that the young defender is now expected to stay at the club this summer.

The left-back is currently recovering from an injury which is why Liverpool want him to stay and continue his rehabilitation at the club.

The report does add that ultimately the plan if for Chambers to go out on loan again in January.

Considering he's had two League One loan spells that have gone well, the Reds probably want to send him to a higher level this time around.

Chambers only recently turned 21-years-old and his ability on the ball and versatility makes him a really useful player. It would not be a surprise to see him earn a promotion to the first team at some point down the line.
