Jürgen Klopp is very pleased with the progress that Cody Gakpo is making at Liverpool. The German head coach has given his thoughts on the Dutch winger, who moved to the Merseyside club from PSV Eindhoven in January.

‘He’s incredibly nice, incredibly smart. I think Cody is the oldest 24-year-old I’ve ever met,’ Klopp told the interviewer of the club’s channels. ‘When I met Cody he was captain of PSV, wow. After ten minutes you also realise why.’ Gakpo has featured 34 times for Liverpool since his £35m move ten months ago. The Netherlands international has scored 10 goals and provided three assists.

On Saturday, Premier League football returns following the international break. Liverpool host Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby. Cody Gakpo has missed his side’s last two matches due to a knee injury, but luckily for Liverpool, he returned to training this week and he will be in contention for a place in this weekend’s matchday squad.
