Lens vs Montpellier - Sun, 20:00

This is one of the games in Ligue 1 this weekend where you'll find the biggest difference in motivation between hosts and visitors.

Lens are currently in the final guaranteed European position (6th) and have a vastly superior goal difference (15 goals better) than Lyon, who sit one place below them on the same number of points.

The situation for Lens is therefore simple: if they win, they finish sixth, and secure a place in Europe. Motivation will be total, and the support of a sell-out crowd should help the hosts achieve their objective.

Visitors Montpellier have nothing to play for. Already certain of a mid-table final position, there's a very good chance they will be far, far less motivated. This was already the case in losing 2-0 (home) to Monaco last weekend. Their best player, Teji Savanier, missed that game through suspension, and the midfielder will be absent again this weekend.

All factors suggest that Lens should win and, potentially, comfortably. The hosts are 1.4740/85 to collect all three points.

If those odds are too short for you, support Lens on the Asian Handicap. With our selection, you'll get your stakes back if Lens win by a single goal, and make a profit if they win by two or more goals.

Lorient vs Clermont - Sun, 20:00

Lorient will to be the more motivated of these two sides battling near the foot of the table on Sunday night.

Bottom club Clermont are already relegated so have nothing to play for. Their motivation levels will be extremely low, and manager Pascal Gastien may rotate.

In contrast, Lorient can still escape the drop. Currently in the second relegation spot, they're three points from the potential safety of the relegation play-off position, and their goal difference is inferior by seven goals to that of Metz, the team occupying that relegation playoff berth.

If Lorient win, Metz lose, and that seven-goal deficit is overturned, Lorient will escape automatic relegation, and go into the relegation playoff instead. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No, especially as Metz's opponents this weekend are PSG, the division's best side.

Lorient will want to uphold their end of the bargain by winning by as large a margin as they possibly can. With nothing to play for, Clermont are likely to be compliant opponents.

Given the significant difference in motivation, it's surprising to find Lorient as big as 1.715/7 to earn three points. Yes, their form has been poor - which is why they find themselves in the relegation zone - but their desire to win will be through the roof, while Clermont's will be on the floor.

Either back Lorient to win or, if you're looking for bigger odds, support the hosts on the Asian Handicap. With our selection, you'll get your stakes back if the game ends all-square, and make a profit if Lorient win by two or more goals.
