Manchester City are now seeing talks step up over a deal that will send one of their right-backs out to French football for the now-ongoing season.
Issa Kabore has been a recurring name in City’s transfer activity, with Etihad Stadium officials keen to resolve his future before the deadline at the end of this week.
The 24-year-old has spent the majority of his City career out on loan, developing through spells in France, Portugal, England, and most recently the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen. Yet, despite his experience, he has struggled to carve out a place under Pep Guardiola.
Kabore’s situation has closely resembled that of other fringe players at the club this summer, with City pursuing permanent or temporary solutions for names such as James McAtee, Jack Grealish, and Ilkay Gündoğan.
Etihad bosses remain focused on balancing squad depth with player pathways, often opting for exit solutions that include clauses such as buy-backs or sell-ons, a strategy that has defined the club’s approach to squad management in recent windows.
Interest in Kabore has been varied. Southampton were in talks earlier in the window, while Lyon and Hamburg had also explored approaches. More recently, it has been reported that Leicester City and Ipswich Town entered the race, highlighting how widespread the defender’s appeal is across Europe.
However, according to the information of journalist Luca Bendoni, Manchester City and Paris FC are now exploring conditions of a potential loan move – with an option to buy – for first-team right-back Issa Kaboré.
Conversations are said to be an initial stage, while the aforementioned option to buy could reportedly become mandatory if certain conditions are met.
Should talks progress positively, the deal could suit all parties. Paris gain an international-level right-back with top-flight experience, Kabore secures much-needed stability and game time, while City potentially unlock a future sale clause that guarantees financial return.
Still, competition for Kabore’s signature cannot be ruled out. Clubs such as Lyon and Leicester could re-emerge late in the window, particularly if Paris delay negotiations. City’s openness to both permanent and loan exits ensures flexibility, but also means other suitors may attempt to hijack proceedings if the French side hesitate.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Etihad Stadium officials will want clarity sooner rather than later. If an agreement is reached with Paris FC, Kabore may finally close the chapter on his City journey, marking the end of a five-year spell defined by loan moves.
