LFP receive competing bids from Discovery and DAZN for Ligue 1 broadcasting rights

It was reported earlier today that the LFP had received an offer from DAZN for the Ligue 1 TV rights valued at €375 million. A bid that is far below what the league had expected and hoped for at the start of the bidding process when the LFP had set their sights on a €1 billion deal – and also less than what DAZN had offered a few months ago.

As per a report by RMC Sport, the league has explored an alternative option which would be to establish their own subscription service, a concept that has formed the basis of a new offer from Warner Bros Discovery. The American broadcaster has discussed over the last few weeks the possibility of integrating the league’s prospective channel into their Max package.

On the 4th of July, the LFP signed an agreement with Warner Bros, which like the competing DAZN offer would have to be ratified by the board if the the league wished to choose this option. L’Équipe writes that there is hope that the Warner Bros offer could bring in €600 million (although all figures would rely on how successful the channel could attract subscribers).

Both of these options were discussed earlier today and it will have to be seen which route the league decides to take: the more traditional DAZN offer or a brave new world. For now, the Warner Bros offer seems the more attractive to the club presidents.
