Leverkusen reach U19 final with epic win over Bayern | OneFootball

After a rollercoaster battle against Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen book their place in this season’s Germany U19 championship final. Bayern opened the score in the first minute through Magnus Dalpiaz, and they also led 2-1 until injury-time.

Italian defender Andrea Natali forced extra-time in a true Leverkusen fashion in the 92nd minute. Both teams scored in the first 15 minutes of extra-time before US youth international Aaron Heard won it for Die Werkself in the 118th minute.

Leverkusen last won the U19 championship in 2007 with a 2-1 win over Thomas Müller’s Bayern Munich. Bayern were the first champions in the current Bundesliga format back in the 2002-03 season, but they failed to repeat that success ever since.

Amine Adli, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonas Hofmann and Martin Terrier were in attendance at Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion to support Leverkusen youngsters. Werder Bremen host Köln to determine the other finalist tomorrow morning.

TSG Hoffenheim were last season’s surprise champions with a 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund. For the first time since 2018, Dortmund will not be in the final of the U19 Bundesliga.
