Birmingham City have been warned that spending money always does not equal success at League One level.

Last term, Blues suffered relegation from the Championship, which came as a damaging blow to the ambitions of their owners, who have big plans.

This summer though, Birmingham spent between £20m and £25m when they brought in the likes of Christoph Klarer, Lyndon Dykes, Emil Hansson and most notably Premier League striker Jay Stansfield.

Charlton Athletic attacker Chuks Aneke spent the 2021/22 season with Birmingham and he admits Blues have some quality players for League One.

However, the 31-year-old Addicks forward warned Birmingham that splashing cash does not always bring success at League One level, stressing the jury is out.

“We will see what happens. I have played many League One seasons and money does not always ensure success”, Aneke told the South London Press.

“Let us see what they [Birmingham City] do – they have got some good players for the level.

“Let us see if they can put it all together and produce.”

Blues have made a decent start to the League One campaign but they have a tough fixture at St. Andrew’s when they host league leaders Wrexham next week.

Aneke’s Charlton will host Birmingham at the start of October.
