Youssouf Fofana has had a hit and miss season for AC Milan, though with the change in coaches, that is to be expected.

Sergio Conceicao and Paulo Fonseca have two different ideas of football. However, Fofana has seen importance in both, even if his role has differed. The Frenchman in Fonseca’s mind was a controller, whilst the current coach prefers a more physical game, which admittedly has seen his minutes drop.

Both are parts of Fofana’s game, and whilst he has shone on occasions, the lows have been rather low with mistakes often costly.

Today, L’Equipe’s headlines read ‘Where is Fofana?’, whilst questions were asked of ‘What happened to him?’ inside, as Milan Press relays. Whilst he has been at the forefront for Milan, his position with the National Team has fallen dramatically.

Once upon a time, he was a regular and had ‘carved out an important place’, but now he is consistently overlooked, with his last trip to Clairefontaine coming in the September-October internationals.

An exchange took place between Didier Deschamps and the midfielder, according to the report, in Autumn, where his role was discussed but there is no bad blood. Regardless of this, there are still no signs of a call-up anytime soon. So, Fofana must keep plugging away in attempt to reach the World Cup squad next summer.
