Leicester midfield ‘could not get near’ Chelsea player says former Blues man

The Leicester City midfield could not handle one Chelsea player so much yesterday that they could even get near him, according to one former Blue.

Chelsea won the game 2-1 in the end even though a late penalty saw the home side get back in to it a bit, although it was far too little too late in the end.

The game was very one-side and throughout most of the first half at least, looked very much like an attack vs defence training game. Chelsea should really have scored more goals, but they could not take their chances.

Leicester did have some moments in the game as well, but really it was Chelsea who should have stormed it and came out as the deserved winners on the day.

Former Chelsea man Joe Cole was watching the game, and he was fully impressed with what he saw from one Blues midfielder in the game.

Cole impressed with Enzo Fernandez

The former Chelsea winger singled out midfielder Enzo Fernandez for some deserved praise and probably he was actually a lot of people’s man of the match in the game, really stepping up and showing a lot of energy to help Chelsea control the game.

Afterwards, as cited on X, Cole said on Fernandez’s performance:

“He was brilliant today. He was getting it in all areas of the pitch. He was probing. I thought the midfield of Leicester could not get near him.”

Fernandez was certainly all over the pitch yesterday and it was quite surprising seeing as he had played 90 minutes in the early hours of Thursday morning and had to travel back from South America on the Thursday as well.

Fernandez will now be hoping he has done enough to become part of the Enzo Maresca’s A-Team and continue starting league matches.
