Leicester City have a busy summer ahead of them, as they best prepare for life back in the Championship.

The Foxes put up a toothless survival fight in the Premier League last term and ultimately succumbed to relegation months before it was mathematically confirmed.

Leicester became the first Premier League team to lose eight top-flight games in a row without scoring a single goal, making for a miserable atmosphere at the King Power Stadium come the end of the year.

With it still uncertain who will be the Foxes’ manager next season, there are sure to be a number of unhappy customers desperate to secure a move away from the club this summer.

Football League World’s Leicester City fan pundit, Louchlainn Martin, believes one player in particular will be keen to leave the King Power in the upcoming transfer window unless the right manager is appointed.

Harry Winks Leicester City exit predicted this summer unless possession-heavy manager arrives

“Harry Winks was brought in by Enzo Maresca for £10 million, and it was a bit of a coup for a Championship club,” explained Louchlainn.

“He’s a big-name player for the Championship, and he had an excellent season under Maresca. He was a big focal point in that system.

“When Steve Cooper came in, it was quite clear from day one that Winks wasn't really fully on board with Cooper's ideas and way of playing. As we saw the day after Cooper was sacked as Leicester City manager, when Winks was pictured front and centre at the Copenhagen scandal where he held up a board that said Enzo we miss you.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy came in, and Winks had a little bit of playing time, but ultimately again, he couldn't get fully on board with Ruud, and they had a big fallout in March-April when Winks refused to stay at the training ground one night a week after his partner gave birth.

“So, since then, he hasn't featured one single time in the Leicester City matchday squad, so I would suspect that he is waiting patiently and wanting to find out who the next Leicester City manager is and whether he will fit into their plans.

“If Ruud van Nistelrooy stays on as manager, there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that Harry Winks remains a Leicester City player; that bridge has burnt.

“If a possession-heavy manager did come in like Russell Martin, I could see Harry Winks sticking around, but he's definitely not happy with his current situation.”

Harry Winks is still a top-flight player

Despite a poor season for all involved at Leicester last year, Winks’ expertise can’t simply be dismissed.

The midfielder made 45 appearances for the Foxes when they clinched the Championship title in 2023/24, playing an instrumental role in Enzo Maresca's system that year.

Besides a season-long loan spell at Sampdoria, the 29-year-old spent eight years at Tottenham Hotspur, making over 200 appearances for the North London club.

That type of consistent performance for such a high-level club isn’t achieved by chance, and despite operating at a lower platform for the last few seasons, Winks is more than capable of contributing to a top-flight outfit next term.
