At 38 years old, many footballers are winding down their careers — but Jamie Vardy is clearly not like most. After confirming he will leave Leicester City at the end of his contract this summer, Vardy is weighing up his next move, and per TeamTalk, Leeds United is one of the Premier League clubs in active pursuit. Despite Wrexham showing early interest, it now seems that the former England striker is more focused on staying in the top flight.
“Vardy recently announced that he will end his glittering spell with Leicester City once his contract expires in the summer,” TeamTalk reported. “The centre-forward aims to continue playing at the highest level, preferably in the Premier League.”
With Leeds securing promotion back to the Premier League, they are understandably looking to bolster their squad with proven top-flight experience. Vardy, even in the twilight of his career, offers just that.

There’s no sugar-coating it — Leeds United need goals. While they’ve got youth and pace in their attacking ranks, the value of a proven finisher can’t be overstated. That’s where Vardy fits the mould. He scored goals during Leicester’s title-winning season, terrorised defences with his pace for years, and most importantly, has the kind of grit Leeds fans adore.
“Newly promoted duo Leeds and Burnley are both possibilities for Vardy. They admire the 38-year-old for his vast experience and believe he can contribute with top-flight goals next season,” TeamTalk stated.
It’s not just about goals, either. Vardy brings a mentality and hunger that could help mentor the younger crop at Elland Road. Even more enticing is the fact that he’s available on a free transfer via a pre-contract agreement. For a club keeping one eye on Financial Fair Play and another on squad depth, that’s as good as it gets.
“Vardy represents a bargain option as he can be signed on a free transfer via a pre-contract agreement.”
An intriguing subplot in this saga is the future of Patrick Bamford. According to TeamTalk, Wrexham — who are now turning their attention away from Vardy — are considering making a move for the current Leeds striker. If Bamford were to leave, that could be the final push Leeds need to seal a deal with Vardy.
“TEAMtalk understands that the Welsh club are also interested in Leeds striker Patrick Bamford. His exit could make room for Vardy to arrive at Elland Road this summer.”
It’s a potentially win-win scenario: Bamford gets regular football, Wrexham get an experienced forward, and Leeds add a high-impact, seasoned striker without spending a penny on the fee.
Vardy has reportedly had interest for several months, and there are suggestions that negotiations are further along than many realise. “One source has suggested that a deal taking him to his next club is more advanced than people may think,” TeamTalk noted, adding that, “he has had plenty of interest for several months.”
Despite being linked to Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic, those clubs are said to be sticking to their youth-first recruitment models. That leaves Premier League hopefuls like Leeds and Burnley in pole position.
“Vardy also would not have chosen to leave the club he loves if he didn’t already know he had good options on the table.”
For a Leeds United supporter, the idea of Jamie Vardy arriving at Elland Road is mouth-watering. Not only does he bring firepower, but he brings swagger — the kind of cutting edge Leeds lacked at times during their last Premier League spell. Say what you like about his age; the man still has goals in him, and with a service-minded midfield behind him, he could be a one-season wonder in the best possible way.
The possible exit of Patrick Bamford might feel bittersweet. He’s had his moments in a Leeds shirt, especially during the 2020-21 season under Bielsa. But injuries and inconsistency have plagued him since. If parting with Bamford means making room for Vardy, it’s a no-brainer.
We’ve got youth. We’ve got energy. But what we need is that Premier League know-how — the sort of big-game mentality Vardy brings by the bucketload. He’s played in finals, title races, and Champions League nights. And now, he could be leading the line at Elland Road. Just imagine the roar of the crowd when he bags his first goal in white. For a club looking to make a statement on their return to the top flight, Vardy could be that statement.
