Leeds on the brink of promotion

Leeds are within touching distance of a Premier League return after Joel Piroe smashed in four goals during a 6-0 thrashing of Stoke at Elland Road on Monday.

The Whites could be back in the top flight by the end of the night — they just need Sheffield United to drop points against second-placed Burnley in the evening kick-off. And if Burnley beat the Blades, they’ll be going up with Leeds too.

The hosts came flying out the blocks in front of a buzzing home crowd, with Piroe grabbing a hat-trick in the first 20 minutes.

Junior Firpo then added a fourth, and Piroe wasn’t done yet — he slotted in his fourth just before the break, taking him to the top of the Championship scoring charts with 19 for the season.

By that point, the game was done and dusted, but Wilfried Gnonto still got in on the act, heading in a sixth just before the hour mark.

To cap it all off, 16-year-old Harry Gray got his first-team debut in the final minutes — he’s Archie Gray’s younger brother and the great-nephew of club legend Eddie Gray.
