Leandro Trossard will not be part of Brighton and Hove Albion’s squad when they face Liverpool this weekend, revealed manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Trossard has been one of the standout players for Brighton since signing in 2019. In 116 Premier League appearances, he has netted 25 goals and 13 assists.
This season, he has hit seven goals in 16 appearances, including a hat-trick at Anfield back in October. This makes him the Seagulls’ top scorer, and joint-seventh in the Premier League’s Golden Boot race.
However, he will not add to his tally in the reverse fixture against Liverpool. De Zerbi has confirmed that he will be left out of the squad this weekend due to concerns over his attitude.
De Zerbi said (via The Athletic): “Leandro isn’t on the list of players for tomorrow. He knows very well my opinion. The last session before the Middlesbrough game, when he understood he wasn’t playing, he left the session without telling me anything.
“That isn’t good. On Monday I spoke with him and explained I don’t like this attitude. He knows very well that if he wants to play with me he has to work hard, to run, to be in the right way.
“I don’t know what the problem is. I want to be honest. I’m open with him.”
The winger, who has been capped 24 times for Belgium, has just a year-and-a-half remaining on his current contract. He is reportedly reluctant to extend his deal, amid links to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
On Saturday, Brighton will have the opportunity to jump above their opponents and into seventh place with a win. They could go within five points of the Champions League places, depending on other results.
