Lazio director Angelo Fabiani will only say that the club is ‘moderately satisfied’ with the performances of coach Marco Baroni, insisting the tactician is ‘not up for discussion’ after a 5-0 defeat.
The Aquile have in many ways been punching above their weight so far this season, winning the Europa League opening phase and setting up a quarter-final clash with Bodo/Glimt, while they are still in the hunt for a top four Serie A finish.
However, the humiliating 5-0 defeat to Bologna at the weekend cast some shadows over the future of coach Baroni.
“I want to make it clear straight away that Baroni is not up for discussion,” director of sport Fabiani told Radio Radio.
“Marco is part of a project that started almost a year ago and cannot end after just seven months. Having said that, conceding five goals does leave a bitter taste in the mouth, so it’s right that the club and directors express their point of view.
“We must roll our sleeves up and not forget all the good that has been done so far.”

The 5-0 hammering at Bologna saw Lazio slip from fifth place down to sixth, but was not the first time they have fallen hard in a head-to-head battle, having been beaten 6-0 by Inter in December and 2-0 in the Derby della Capitale against Roma in January.
“I know that Baroni is a man and a coach who seeks perfection,” added Fabiani.
“We are moderately satisfied, so we go forward. We are seeking a winning mentality that was lacking in Bologna, but it was not the fault of the coach. I trust that Lazio can do something good over the next few years, as we are on the right track.”
President Claudio Lotito has never been one to hold back his opinions, including with tactical advice, but Fabiani warns against doing that here.
“We conceded a lot of goals, but also are the third most prolific side, so it all balances out, but it is up to the coach to improve these situations. It would be a mistake to invade his territory or try to influence him, as it would delegitimise his work.
“Baroni is someone I have known for many years, so I am not at all surprised by his work, as I gave him his first job at Ancona.”
