Thanks to a stipulation in the FIGC regulations, Lazio will be able to count on Elseid Hysaj and Toma Basic against Roma.
The two players have been excluded from the Serie A and Europa League squad lists since the start of the season alongside Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro who has recently joined Monza on loan. The Albanian full-back made an appearance in the Coppa Italia victory over Napoli last month, but the Croatian midfielder has yet to take the field in any competitive fixture under Marco Baroni.
But according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the two players will be called up for Sunday’s Derby della Capitale showdown, as the FIGC rules allow the clubs to alter their squads on a weekly basis while the transfer market is open. The Biancocelesti had in fact relied on Hysaj back in August while Mario Gila was injured before having to render their final Serie A squad list once the summer transfer market closed.
As the source explains, Lazio will be without Matias Vecino and Pedro for the big clash, not to mention Tijjani Noslin, Patric and Manuel Lazzari who remain doubtful. So with at least two players missing through injury, there will definitely be room for Hysaj and Basic. The experienced full-back would come in handy, especially if Lazzari doesn’t make it, while the 28-year-old midfielder will offer some depth in the middle of the park amidst Vecino’s absence.
Nevertheless, both players are expected to leave in January, as they would most likely be omitted from the squad once more by February. Hysaj has been recently linked with the likes of Lecce and Empoli.
