After winning the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, Bologna’s obligation to buy Nicolo Casale from Lazio has been triggered.
The Emilians won their first Italian cup in 51 years after beating AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico thanks to Dan Ndoye’s solitary strike. This triumph will also have major implications on the future of Casale who is now destined to join the Rossoblu on a permanent basis.
The 27-year-old is a Hellas Verona youth product who signed for Lazio in the summer of 2022. The Italian had a solid first campaign at Formello, but like the vast majority of his teammates, his performances dropped last season.
Following a shaky start to the 2024/25 campaign, the Biancoccelesti decided to send him on loan to Bologna on the summer transfer market’s deadline day, replacing him with Samuel Gigot.

La Lazio Siamo Noi confirms that the Emilian club has an obligation to buy Casale at the end of the season if they qualify for any European competition, which has now been guaranteed thanks to their Coppa Italia triumph.
Vincenzo Italiano’s men have thus booked their place in the Europa League next season, unless they finish in the Top Four and instead qualify for the Champions League. Hence, the defender’s obligation to buy clause has been activated, and Lazio will collect €7 million in the process.
Casale has been a backup option for Italiano who prefers the centre-back partnership of Jhon Lucumi and Sam Beukema. Hence, the former Lazio man has only made 13 Serie A appearances since joining Bologna, in addition to four Champions League outings and three in the Coppa Italia.
