Lazio and Christos Mandas are reportedly on the cusp of finalizing their agreement over a contract extension until 2029.

The Background on Christos Mandas

The Biancocelesti bought the Greek custodian in the summer of 2023 from OFI Crete. He initially signed a contract valid until June 2028, with a yearly salary of €100,000, making him the lowest earner in the first team.

The 23-year-old proved his worth last season with a string of splendid displays while deputizing for the injured Ivan Provedel between March and May, which earned him interest from several Premier League sides, including Manchester City were reportedly hoping to add him to their Under-23 squad.

Although he remains a backup for Provedel, Lazio refused to sell Mandas on the low, as they believe he has an important future ahead of him. Therefore, the management is looking to armor him with a new and improved contract.

Contract Extension Pending

According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Biancocelesti are close to reaching an accord with the Greece international over a new contract.

This deal should push back the deadline until 2029 while increasing the player’s salary to circa €800,000 in addition to bonuses that could be linked to the number of appearances, and the Roman newspaper expects the white smoke to emerge at the end of the year.

This season, Mandas has only made a single appearance across all competitions thus far, starting in Lazio’s Europa League contest against OGC Nice. He could also get the nod on Thursday when the Aquile lock horns with Twente.
