Within the latest update on Florian Wirtz’s future and interest from Manchester City is a detailed look at the personal stances of those close to the player on his future.
The Premier League champions are continuing to assess the options throughout various markets for a long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne, who has been confirmed as a pending exit from the club in the coming weeks.
Manchester City have opted not to offer the legendary Belgium international renewed terms to a contract that will expire midway through the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, and it remains to be seen whether De Bruyne will feature at the tournament at all.
Much has been made of City’s forward-planning in recent seasons and just how well the club have gone about replacing some of their most notable stars, with Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, and Sergio Aguero all having left in consecutive campaigns.
However, the latest indications would point towards a much more complex situation around the club and its attempts to replace De Bruyne with their go-to and number one candidate in the market this summer.
According to the latest information provided by MailSport’s Jack Gaughan, Florian Wirtz is firmly Manchester City’s number one target in the creative area, soon to be vacated by De Bruyne.
It is explained that Wirtz is somebody that the Etihad Stadium club have admired for ‘a long, long time’, while it is stressed that at the time of writing the report, City have not been given an indication that the player is definitely joining Bayern Munich this summer.
Offering insight into the personal details of the situation, it is claimed that Florian Wirtz’s father has close ties with Bayern Munich and is heavily favouring that switch, while his mother is leaning towards another season at Bayer Leverkusen.
As for the stance currently being employed by Wirtz concerning Manchester City in particular, the 21-year-old is now said to be ‘more open minded’ on his future with his stance on the Etihad club having ‘softened in recent months’.
For now, German media are continuing to stress the idea that Wirtz himself is leaning towards Bayern Munich too, with some reports going as far as to suggest that the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions already have an agreement with the player.
From the side of Bayer Leverkusen, it appears as though no such deal has been struck involving themselves, and any final answers across the board are yet to arrive with Manchester City likely viewed as still being in the picture for the player.
Etihad bosses will more than likely still be continuing their work elsewhere in the market and preparing deals ahead of the summer with initial conversations, as movement is still expected not only in midfield, but also in defence and potentially within the goalkeeper ranks.
