Chelsea are getting stuck into the Club World Cup quarter finals tonight, but their progress in that tournament hasn’t stopped them making moves on transfers elsewhere.
Joao Pedro was confirmed as a Chelsea player this week, and Jamie Gittens sounds like he’s just days away from being done. There are also sales potentially on the horizon.
Noni Madueke’s status has long been uncertain, even after a season where he played a lot.
Pedro Neto has been favoured over him in recent games in the USA, confirming the sensation that the England winger is considered expendable.
Ed Aarons’ update on Chelsea’s stance on Noni Madueke.
Ed Aarons from the Guardian added to that weight of rumours this afternoon when he said that Arsenal and “several other clubs” are interested in signing the winger this summer, with Chelsea wanting £50m but also being “open to negotiation.”
There’s no question that the Gunners look the most likely destination right now. They need a player like Madueke, they’ve bought plenty of players off us recently, and all the top insiders like Fabrizio Romano have confirmed their serious interest.
It’s also easy to see Madueke fancying a move across London to a top team. Other clubs might struggle to convince him he’s better off there than he is staying put at Chelsea.
Madueke is likely to start tonight, with Neto out on compassionate leave following the tragic death of his close friend Diogo Jota. It’s another chance for him to prove his worth, both to Chelsea and the clubs who are interested in buying him.
He will be facing off against Estevao Willian, the young winger who will soon be coming in to compete with him at Stamford Bridge.
