To be a running favourite for the Ballon d’Or at 17 years of age is simply absurd. Yet, it is just the story of another day in Lamine Yamal’s life.

As relayed by SPORT in a recent report, Joan Laporta and Co. are considering using the same contractual format that they used with Lionel Messi for Lamine Yamal as they see it as the icing on a situation that is a win-win.

Deco, who is negotiating with the player’s entourage over a renewal, maintains that Barcelona need not make Yamal their highest-paid player directly as long as they make him feel valued. The key to satisfying all parties lies in linking both aspects.

As was the case with Messi, the administration thus plans to include several variables in the youngster’s contract that can be activated by unlocking achievements including winning titles, conquering Europe and winning the Ballon d’Or and Pichichi.

Interestingly, once a variable is triggered, it will be converted into a fixed sum and increase the corpus of Yamal’s gross package.

Thus, every new achievement unlocked will make his pay slip stronger and the club will enjoy the perks of keeping him motivated.

This way, all parties stand to gain as Barcelona will benefit from Lamine’s growth and the revenue he brings in while the teenage wonderkid will also move up the ranks as the team’s highest-paid player.

As it stands, the young winger thinks of nothing other than renewing with Barcelona and his agent also confirmed that the deal was only a matter of time earlier this week. The coming days will be critical.
