Lamine Yamal is a truly extraordinary talent. At an age when others are dreaming of first-team football, Yamal has become Barcelona’s beacon of hope.

The teenager’s tantalizing talent shone through during a breakthrough year at Barcelona last season, a campaign that culminated with success with Spain in the summer.

After setting records as the European Championship’s youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer, Yamal was named Young Player of the Tournament as La Roja beat England to win the tournament.

Despite having only turned 17 in the summer, Yamal has a credible argument as one of the world’s best right-wingers and his stats this season prove just how incomparable he is to his peers.

Lamine Yamal compared with teenagers in Europe’s top five leagues this season:

Most goals (4)

No teenager has scored more goals than Yamal across Europe’s top five leagues, with the winger having netted four times in nine La Liga appearances. He’s now just one short of the five goals he scored for the Catalans last season, with just a quarter of the season played.

Most assists (5)

Yamal is also the leader among all teenagers for assists, having created five goals for his teammates so far this season. That return has already levelled his five assists from 2023/24, while it is a league-leading total in La Liga, alongside Villarreal’s Alex Baena. He’s averaged a goal or assist every 80.44 minutes in La Liga this season.

Most key passes (18) and big chances created (9)

Yamal’s five assists have come from a prolific ability to carve out chances. His 18 key passes are more than any other teenager, as are his nine big chances created.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues, of any age, has played more passes into the penalty area (27).

Most successful dribbles (27)

The Spaniard’s silky footwork has bamboozled many a defender and he sits second in both La Liga and Europe’s top five leagues among all players for successful take-ons.

Sevilla flyer Chidera Ejuke is the only player with more successful dribbles (28), while Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe completes the top three in La Liga (23) so far this season.

Most fouls drawn (23)

Sometimes the only route to stopping Yamal is to foul him.

The adventurous dribbling of the 17-year-old is sure to attract fouls from frustrated full-backs and it’s proven to be the case, with Yamal earning 23 free-kicks this season.

Most shots (25)

It’s been a shoot-on-sight policy for Yamal who has fired 25 efforts on goal so far this season.

Across Europe’s top five leagues, Kylian Mbappe (39) leads the way with Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski (34) just behind. Yamal tops the rankings among teenagers and sits fourth in La Liga overall, with Barcelona teammate Raphinha (32) just above him.
