Los Angeles FC are progressing in negotiations to bring Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son to Major League Soccer.
Son is currently part of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and is expected to play against Newcastle United in Seoul on August 3.
That fixture carries major commercial value for Spurs, making any official developments unlikely before the match.
Once the tour concludes, Son will meet with manager Thomas Frank to discuss his role and game time for the upcoming season.
Tottenham remain open to keeping him until his contract expires, but are not expected to stand in his way if he decides on an early exit.
LAFC believe Son favours a move to MLS over offers from Saudi Arabia. They view him as a high-profile addition capable of significantly boosting their international presence.
However, Saudi Pro League clubs are prepared to table offers worth around $40 million plus add-ons.
Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has since scored 173 goals in 454 appearances. He has become one of the club’s most celebrated players, combining consistency with global appeal.
He lifted his first major club trophy when Spurs won the Europa League last season, ending a long wait for silverware and earning a return to the Champions League.
Tottenham’s attacking depth has increased following the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel, alongside existing options such as Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Manor Solomon.
Frank has yet to confirm whether Son will retain the captaincy. He stated during his first media duties that leadership roles and squad structure would be addressed later in pre-season.
While Son remains central to the team and a popular figure in the dressing room, his future is now at a crossroads.
