Speaking in an interview with German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung (h/t MARCA), La Liga president Javier Tebas has sensationally claimed that Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez is trying to force him out of his job.

It is no secret that there is no love lost between Tebas and Perez, with the La Liga president wasting no chance to take potshots at the Real Madrid supremo.

The two have been loggerheads for a long time now, with the Super League project, and now Real Madrid’s stance on the refereeing system in Spain, being major topics of dissent between them.

During the interview, Tebas was asked about what Perez expects to achieve from the Super League. In response, the La Liga chief took shots at him, replying:

“First and foremost, to surpass Santiago Bernabeu, who was a key creator of the European Cup, the predecessor of the Champions League, in the 1950s, and then he is concerned with controlling the competitions in which he participates.”

Continuing, he added: “What certainly does not motivate him is the idea of wanting to save football. He said it seriously in an assembly, but only the most fanatical Real Madrid fans believe it.”

On being quizzed if he enjoys arguing with Perez, Tebas responded by saying: “No. Facing one of the most powerful and influential people in Spain is no fun. He is looking to hurt me and force me out of my job.”

Perez, for his part, has always maintained his silence when it comes to Tebas and his provocations and accusations.

Whether these latest remarks from the La Liga president evokes a reply from the Real Madrid leader remains to be seen.
