Manchester City's Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw performed the black power salute after scoring the opening goal against Liverpool in the Women's Super League (WSL).
The striker made her first WSL start since injuring her leg back in December, scoring a brace to help the Cityzens along to a 4-0 win at Joie Stadium.
Celebrating her opening goal, Shaw bowed her head and lifted her right fist to display the black power salute. The striker's powerful celebration arrives just weeks after she was subject to racist and misogynistic abuse following the team's league loss to Arsenal in Manchester earlier in the month.
Shaw pulled herself from the squad to face the Gunners in the League Cup semi-final just days after the event. Meanwhile, the club are said to be conducting an investigation into the perpetrators who sent Shaw the vile abuse online.
Players and fans have taken to social media over recent weeks to express their support for Shaw, as well as to condemn the vile treatment that she has been subjected to. Joie Stadium took to their feet last night to give the striker a standing ovation as she exited the pitch after 60 minutes.
Shaw remains to be one of the best players the WSL has ever seen, collecting the golden boot in the 2023/24 season following her stellar campaign for Manchester City. She is leading the charge once again, having scored 11 goals so far this season despite her time on the sidelines with an injury.
