Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been forced off with injury in the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, report that the problem for the 30-year-old looked to be with his adductor muscles. Kristjan Asllani replaced him at the base of Inter’s midfield.
Calhanoglu was in the Inter starting eleven for this evening’s Supercoppa final.
That was hardly a surprise to see. Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi looked to go with his strongest available lineup for the final.
However, Calhanoglu was not able to see out the entire first half.
At around the 35th minute mark, Calhanoglu indicated that he would be unable to continue.
The Turkish international therefore came off as a substitute.
Kristjan Asllani replaced Calhanoglu from the substitute’s bench.
According to Mediaset, the problem for Calhanoglu appeared to be with his adductor muscles.
This is certainly a worry for Inter. Calhanoglu is certainly one of the Nerazzurri’s most crucial players.
Moreover, Inter have a few players out with thigh injuries at the moment.
Defenders Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard have both been out for more than a month with thigh strains.
Meanwhile, striker Marcus Thuram picked up a minor adductor problem during the Supercoppa semifinal against Atalanta.
However, in Thuram’s case the Frenchman was able to make a return to Inter’s squad right away for the final, although he is just on the bench.
Inter will naturally be hoping that the issue for Calhanoglu is similar to Thuram’s than the longer-term injuries that have kept Acerbi and Pavard on the sidelines.
