Kevin Briceño saves a point for CS Cartaginés at first place Motagua

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with FC Motagua and CS Cartaginés drawing nil-nil in Group C on Thursday at Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Goalkeeper Kevin Briceño was the star of the night with six key saves to secure the point.
Cristopher Núñez nearly found the opener for CS Cartaginés in the 3’ with a left-footed shot from the left side of the box, but the attempt was just outside the right post.
Denis Meléndez struck a right-footed shot from outside the box in the 14’ but was denied by Kevin Briceño.
Carlos Mejía had a left-footed shot on target from a free kick chance for Motagua in the 42’ but was also saved by Briceño.
Diego González made a vital clearance in the 69’ to extinguish a Motagua threat from a corner kick.
Jorge Serrano attempted to earn the match-winner in the 90’+1’ with a shot from outside the box that was saved by Briceño.
CS Cartagines will continue its campaign against Verdes FC next Wednesday.
FC Motagua will sit idle during the fourth match week and conclude the Group Stage at Deportivo Saprissa on August 26. El Ciclón Azul currently leads the group with seven points.
