Nottingham Forest’s efforts to secure Timothy Weah’s signature have come to a halt, after the United States international rejected the club’s contract proposal. As reported by ESPN, Forest and Juventus had reached a €22 million agreement, which also included winger Samuel Mbangula. Yet Weah has opted to “wait for other opportunities away from Turin”.
The 25-year-old forward, once heralded for his promise, is now at a crossroads. Juventus, according to ESPN sources, are “keen to offload Weah and make space for new signings”, despite having three years left on his deal. The Serie A side initially brought him in from Lille in July 2023 in a deal worth up to €12.4 million.
A product of Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, Weah has had spells at Celtic, Lille and now Juventus. However, his progress has not mirrored the trajectory of fellow USMNT teammate Weston McKennie, who remains in contract renewal talks as his deal nears the 2025–26 expiry.

Weah’s output in Turin reflects a player yet to fully find his rhythm. “Weah scored five goals in 30 games for in Serie A last season, many of which came from off the bench.” His total contribution stands at seven goals and six assists in 78 Juventus appearances.
Forest’s interest may be over, but Juventus still appear eager to part ways with Weah. With several European clubs still on the lookout for wide options, the American winger may yet find a better fit, if not more playing time.
This one stings a bit, doesn’t it? To see Forest aiming for a player of Timothy Weah’s calibre, only for the deal to fall through because the player turned us down, raises questions. Was it ambition, wage terms, or simply a lack of faith in the project? Either way, it’s a bitter pill.
Weah has struggled to ignite his career in Italy, but there’s no doubt he’s got raw ability. “Seven goals and six assists in 78 appearances” isn’t setting the world alight, but context matters. Limited starts and system fit can kill a winger’s output. At Forest, under a more defined role, he might’ve thrived.
What’s most frustrating is the reported deal being in place. €22 million including Samuel Mbangula looked tidy business. This wasn’t a scattergun signing, it had logic. Forest need energy and pace out wide, and Weah could’ve provided both.
Fans will rightly wonder what’s next. There’s still time, but rejection always cuts deeper when you’re trying to build something. It’s not just about the player anymore, it’s about the message it sends.
