Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli still sees Inter Milan as the Scudetto favorites despite their slow start to the season.
The Nerazzurri have only registered two wins in their first five Serie A outings. They beat Lecce 2-0 and Atalanta by four unanswered goals.
However, Simone Inzaghi’s men settled for away draws against Genoa and Monza.
And last weekend, they suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of their crosstown rivals AC Milan. This was a surprising result considering Inter were the heavy favorites heading to the Derby della Madonnina.
Nevertheless, Locatelli insists the Italian champions remain the odds-on favorites to reclaim their Serie A title at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old argues the Nerazzurri have the most formidable squad in the Italian top flight.
“I believe Inter remain the favorites,” said the former Sassuolo man in his interview with Tuttosport via FcInterNews.
“They have the most complete squad in the league.”
Nevertheless, Locatelli warns the Beneamata will have strong challengers for the throne. He cites AC Milan and Napoli as well as his own club, Juventus.
“But aside from Inter, there are other good teams, like Milan who played a great derby and Napoli.
“We also have a great team, so we must not hide from the conversation. But let’s take it one step at a time.”
On another note, Locatelli said he isn’t surprised by Paolo Vanoli’s exploits at Torino.
“We have to congratulate Torino for being on top of the table. I know Vanoli well from the youth national teams and he was a great coach even then.
“He had a good run in Serie B and when he trained me, I thought he would surely get to the top. But I obviously hope that Il Toro doesn’t stay in the lead all season.”
