Juventus could make or break Manchester United’s summer transfer plans as their shortlist for a new striker reportedly includes some of Ruben Amorim’s top targets and his current number 9.
Just like the Red Devils, the Serie A giants are on the lookout for a new centre-forward to transform their attack next season.
Loanee Randal Kolo Muani is set to return to Paris Saint-Germain and there are question marks over the futures of both Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik.
While all three would arguably improve United’s options, Juventus are aiming higher and looking to bring in a marquee name to lead their line under Igor Tudor. And their list of options is eerily similar to the one drawn up at Old Trafford.
According to Gazzetta, Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, Mateo Retegui and Goncalo Ramos are all potential arrivals for the Turin side, who also view United’s Rasmus Hojlund as a possibility, albeit a more remote one.
Gazzetta report that their chances of signing Osimhen have declined since the departure of sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, which is potentially good news for the Red Devils, who were recently named as a possible destination for the Nigerian.
This makes a move for Gyokeres more likely, and while the report notes that he is “the most difficult profile” on the club’s list given his cost and the competition for his signature, it is suggested that Juventus very much remain in the conversation.
Gyokeres seems to be slipping away from United at present, with Napoli and Atletico Madrid hot on his tail, but things could change in the blink of an eye especially given his relationship with Amorim.
Gazzetta indicate that Atalanta’s Retegui – also linked with United earlier this year – is a mid-price option for the Old Lady, and also relay the club’s interest in Hojlund.
The Dane is “appreciated” at Juventus but judged to be “still a little immature for the cost requested by Manchester United”, so realistically a move to the Allianz Stadium does not seem likely at this stage.
Juventus appear most keen on PSG striker Ramos, with the report noting that while he has struggled for regular gametime he has still put up respectable numbers this season (18 goals in 40 games).
This spells bad news for United’s recently-reported interest in the Portuguese, who is apparently free to look for a new club.
Whatever happens, the Red Devils and the Old Lady are going to be sniffing around the same players this summer and Amorim will be hoping his outfit can beat the Italians to the punch for his priority signings.
