On Wednesday night, reports emerged claiming that Barcelona duo Pablo Torre and Gerard Martin had sustained injuries while in action for Spain U-21 at the UEFA U-21 European Championships.
Building on that, Jijantes FC is now reporting that Martin has suffered a fracture in his right hand.
As such, the 23-year-old defender will be leaving the Spain U-21 camp immediately to return to Barcelona, following which he will undergo surgery to address the problem.
This comes as a bitter blow for Martin, who was part of his first major tournament with Spain U-21 after enjoying a breakthrough year at Barcelona under Hansi Flick.

The young left-back served as the backup to Alejandro Balde after being promoted from Barça Atletic and while not always the most eye-catching player on the field, he did enough to earn Flick’s trust.
It remains to be seen how long the injury and surgery put Martin out on the sidelines, especially considering that he was attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League.
Indeed, both Wolves and Bournemouth have shown an interest in signing the youngster this summer, with Barcelona not entirely opposed to the idea of a sale for a fee of around €12 million.
For now, though, Martin will return to Catalonia from the Spain U-21 camp to undergo surgery on his fractured right arm and focus on his recovery and rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, an update on the nature of Pablo Torre’s injury and his condition is awaited, with the young midfielder also staring at an uncertain future at Barcelona.
