Journalist Pete O'Rourke has revealed Southampton's stance on Kyle Walker-Peters' future. With Walker-Peters' free exit looking a feasible possibility, the Saints might accept a cut-price fee for the defender.
The Kyle Walker-Peters' transfer saga has been one of the hot topics in the Premier League these days. And why not, given the 27-year-old might be available for an exceptional cut-price fee in January.
While it is a lottery for interested buyers, Southampton's problems are increasing with each passing day.
Being the Saints' best player in recent years, the club has been making efforts to renew him. However, the chances of this possibility look extremely slim now.
Sadly, Southampton's say in the situation has reduced to the extent that Walker-Peters might actually leave for free. That is according to journalist Peter O'Rourke who has updated about the defender's transfer situation.
As per Football Insider (via Football Insider's Inside Track Podcast), Peter O' Rourke revealed that Southampton has internally accepted their loss in the Walker-Peters saga.
Already in his last six months of contract at St. Mary's, the Saints know they might lose the defender for nothing in the summer.
For Walker-Peters, there isn't any shortage of buyers for him. Multiple Premier League clubs like Everton and Tottenham Hotspurs have sounded interest in signing him previously.
Also, Southampton have recently hired Johannes Spors as their new director. Thus, the Saints might fetch a small transfer fee for him while he is still on their books.
The report also mentioned that a £5m fee could just be enough for Southampton to part ways with him in January itself.
Defensively, the Saints could do without Walker-Peters for the rest of the season. Southampton has Charlie Taylor and Ryan Manning, meaning they are currently well-stacked in the left-back position.
