Despite a boisterous start as Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou has lost the plot completely with time. Although they have progressed to the Europa League semifinals, 16th in the league standings is simply not good enough for a club of Tottenham’s stature. They snatched an edgy win in the EFL Cup earlier this year, but have been defeated twice by the Reds, both at home and away, across competitions. Considering their current catastrophe and conundrum both on and off the pitch, it would be a colossal job to claim a victory in Merseyside.

Defence

With a 74% save percentage, Alisson Becker has maintained his supremacy between the sticks over the other Premier League custodians. He must aim for back-to-back clean sheets after last weekend’s 1-0 triumph against Leicester City.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to part ways this summer and join Real Madrid upon the expiration of his Anfield contract. Yet he is irreplaceable down the right, irrespective of Conor Bradley’s emergence through the academy ranks. His sensational strike as a ‘super sub’ secured all three points at King Power, and the gaffer could prefer the ‘local lad’ this Sunday, even though he does not have a future beyond the final five games of the season. Midfield

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister offer balance and all-round traits deep down the midfield. But the concerns remain on Dominik Szoboszlai’s form, with the Hungarian lacking enough creative spark as a ‘number 10’. Slot should drop him in favour of Curtis Jones to have more control in the middle of the park.

Mohamed Salah has not found the net since his brace against Southampton in March, and the red-hot Egyptian is determined to make it to the scoresheet on Sunday evening. Luis Diaz could be deployed from the left as it suits his game rather than featuring as a ‘False 9’. Cody Gakpo, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa could be involved as second-half substitutes to add flair and firepower in and around the attacking third.

Attack

Neither Jota nor Darwin Nunez has impressed while spearheading the attack. But the Portuguese marksman is likely to secure the starting spot with Nunez’s days potentially numbered after failing to respond to Slot’s demands.
