Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol says the club failed to prioritise picking up points in Europe as they find themselves on the brink of Champions League elimination.
While City have found their feet in the Premier League after an uncharacteristically dismal run of form, they continue to struggle in Europe and sit outside the play-off spots heading into the final round of the Champions League's league phase.
City find themselves in a straight shoot-out with Club Brugge on Wednesday but Gvardiol admits the Cityzens should never have ended up in this situation.
"We need to win," Gvardiol told TNT Sports. "The good thing is that we play at home. At the moment it is a final game for us in the Champions League and I think we're going to give everything on the pitch to achieve that and qualify for the knockout stage.
"The thing is that we didn't think earlier about getting more points in the Champions League, we were more focused on the Premier League and the cups, so now we are in the current situation.
"We need to find a way out and I think we are going to manage that."

Manager Pep Guardiola called on his players to produce "something special" and ensure they avoid the humiliation of being dumped out of the competition in the first round.
"The situation that we have is that we have to win the game and if not we will not continue in this competition," Guardiola told the press. "But it's not a problem, it's an opportunity, a challenge, and we will face it.
"We would like to score a lot in the first 20 minutes but I don't think it is going to happen. The approach is to read the game we have to play - be completely relaxed, no emotions and understand the game.
"I know these type of games you have to put in something special - something there has not been enough of so far in this Champions League - to win the games."
